IT Project Management
The failure rate of IT projects is staggering. Many IT professionals lack the basic project management knowledge, training, and methodology to plan, execute, and control IT projects. The numbers speak for themselves:
- Eighty percent of IT projects fail and 50% of those are over budget.
- Only 12% of projects are delivered on time and within budget. That means that 88% are over budget or over schedule, or both.
- Cost overruns average 189% of original estimates.
The workload on IT professionals has increased dramatically over the past few years. Cost cutting and hiring freezes have NOT diminished the need for IT Projects (in fact it probably has increased the need). IT professionals are expected to continue with their “regular” job (DBA, System Admin, Webmaster, Programmer, Network or Application support) along with managing or taking part in new projects. Doing the same, or more, – with less.
A dedicate project management team can dramatically improve project success. Our certified project managers utilize standard lifecycle processes which:
- Ensure that all of the necessary work is included in the initial estimates and the initial workplan.
- Allow the use of a standard lifecycle model that may account for the majority of the work required for your project. This increases the start-up time required for your project.
- Help ensure that planning is done before execution in all steps of the lifecycle. This cuts down on misdirected work and rework.
- Use standard templates and processes to get everyone in the organization comfortable with the major deliverables required on a project and the general flow of the project resulting in a faster startup time.
